February, 2008:- One of the greatest threats to our recently released kiwi are dogs. Not just pig and deer hunters' dogs, but also family pets and farm dogs. So, with that in mind, the Rimutaka Forest Park Trust arranged for free Kiwi Avoidance Training for local dog owners and hunters.
It was a big success, with 57 dogs given kiwi aversion training by Jim Pottinger over the weekend of 23rd and 24th February.
39 pig dogs, 9 deer dogs, 3 Search & Rescue dogs and a number of domestic pets, were put through their paces by Jim.
More dog training events are planned for this year and the recent graduates will need to return next year to get their KAT certificate endorsed.
The next training sessions will be held on 6th & 7th November, 2010
Cost is $30 per dog and takes approximately 15-20 minutes per dog. Hunter and trainer, Jim Pottinger, will be taking the dogs through the training.
Special Offer: Get one or more dogs free! To ease the financial burden on a dog owner wanting to have two or more dogs trained on the day, take advantage of our "one dog free per pair" training offer!
Example: Total cost for 2 dogs = $30. Total cost for 4 dogs =$60. (That's $60 off!)
Bring your dog(s) to the Education Centre near the Catchpool Stream entrance to the Rimutaka Forest Park.
Bookings are essential as numbers are limited.
