We have a range of sponsorship types available.

Sponsor a Kiwi $50 inc. GST per year per kiwi
Sponsor a Tree $30 inc. GST per native tree or plant

Remember that your sponsorship contribution or donation is most likely tax deductible. You will receive a tax receipt with your acknowledgement in the post.

New!!! Sponsor a Tree - $30 each

For the next 300 years or more you can come back to the Rimutaka Forest Park to admire your chosen native tree planted in a lovely spot for future generations to enjoy!

You can choose from a wide range of eco-sourced native trees, some of them quite rare and valuable, and either plant it yourself down in the Park with our assistance and guidance, or we'll plant it for you if you cannot be there on the day.

How about a fine, specimen podocarp such as a kahikatea, rimu, or totara? Or what about something rare, like Fierce Lancewood (Pseudopanax ferox) or Kirk's Tree Daisy (Brachyglottis Kirkii) perhaps?

Your sponsorship helps to pay for the plant and its care for those crucial first years of life, including nursery propagation, planting and releasing/ protection from pests etc. until its healthy establishment.

We'll provide you with a certificate with a GPS-mapped location shown for your chosen plant and general information about how your plant fits into the local ecology - what birds and other critters it feeds or provides haven for - and other pertinent information.

Sponsor a Trap - $25 per year

We have installed over 500 stoat and ferret traps in the Rimutaka Forest Park and plan to expand this number as our kiwi population grows and their home ranges spread out.

These help keep predator numbers down. The biggest threat to young kiwi is stoats and by installing these traps we have given kiwi a fighting chance to re-populate the area.

For your $25 sponsorship, you will receive a certificate with the trap identification number. You will also receive updates with trapping data and information on the kiwi population.

A side-benefit of our trapping effort is that other native wildlife species are greatly assisted as well, with a noticeable increase in birdsong in the forest as a consequence.

Sponsor a Kiwi - $50 per year

Sponsoring a kiwi helps our most iconic bird throughout its lifetime.

You will be able to choose the kiwi you would like to sponsor from a list of those currently in our care. Every year you will receive an update on your kiwi, how they are growing, what they are up to or if they have become a parent.

It costs just $50 a year to sponsor a kiwi. This helps us to care for and track them. It also helps us to train and equip our volunteers.

Name a Kiwi Chick - $1,500 +GST

With North Island Brown Kiwi typically living to over 50 years old in the wild, here's a gift that keeps on giving!

Name a Kiwi and give it an identity everyone will know!

This is a fantastic lasting tribute and the perfect present for the person who has everything. You will also get to know if your sponsored kiwi will be making a public appearance as they sometimes do when they are being released, or transported to be given a bit of extra care if needed so that you can be there to see them.

For your $1500 donation you will receive a "naming certificate" and whakapapa (genealogy) for your kiwi. You will also receive occasional updates on how your kiwi is doing in the park, especially milestone events, such as when they produce eggs or chicks of their own.

Sponsor a Transmitter - $400 per year

Sponsoring a transmitter helps us keep track of the kiwi in the Rimutaka Forest Park to monitor their wellbeing.

Lightweight radio transmitters are affixed above the hock on a kiwi's leg and are used to locate the bird via remote tracking and to supply vital information about the bird's status and behaviour.

For example, the information gathered by the transmitters helps us to keep tabs on our kiwi population and tells us when something is wrong or when a bird is incubating an egg or two.

Not all of our kiwi wear transmitters because we can monitor the population using just a sample - mainly the breeding males and as many chicks and juveniles as possible until they reach adulthood. The ones that do have transmitters affixed gather very important information about their behaviour and the growth of the entire population.

Your $400 covers the purchase and fitting of a new transmitter. This happens every year so it is one of the biggest ongoing costs we face. For your sponsorship you will receive a certificate with the name of the kiwi your transmitter is on. You will also receive occasional updates with general information your transmitter may tell us about your bird.
